How to replace the rear crankshaft seal and housing on GMC Acadia?

The replacement process starts by removing the engine Flywheel then the Oil Pan and finally the crankshaft rear oil seal and housing. Firmware installation starts with the crankshaft rear oil seal and housing placement followed by reinstalling the Oil Pan before installing the engine Flywheel.

What tools are needed to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines on GMC Sierra 1500?

In order to replace the Crankshaft rear oil seal on engines with displacements of 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l, the following tools will be needed: Crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J41479). Take off the engine Flywheel and then the Crankshaft rear oil seal from the rear cover. Before the oil seal can be installed, it is critical to make sure the Flywheel spacer is removed if it applies and must not lubricate the oil seal inside diameter (ID) and the Crankshaft surface and avoid the reuse of the Crankshaft rear oil seal. Lubricate the outside diameter (OD) of the new oil seal using the clean engine oil, while ensuring the oil does not come into contact with the seal surface. Additionally, lubricate the back cover oil seal bore with the clean engine oil without permitting oil to come into contact with the Crankshaft surface. Next, install the j41479 tapered cone and bolts to the rear of the Crankshaft, tighten the bolts until tight, but do not over tighten them. Mount the rear oil seal on tapered cone and compress it on the rear cover bore. Thread the j41479 threaded rod in the tapered cone till the tool touches the oil seal and then position the oil seal to the tool. Turn the handle of the tool clockwise so that the seal inserts into the rear cover, bottoming it into the cover bore. And finally, remove the j41479 and install the engine fly wheel.

How to replace the front crankshaft seal on GMC Yukon?

A crankshaft balancer needs to be uninstalled first before replacing the front oil seal. Begin the replacement by extracting the crankshaft front oil seal (140) from the front cover. The crankshaft front oil seal sealing surface requires no lubrication and the technician should avoid installing previously used crankshaft front oil seals. Clean engine oil needs application on both the new oil seal's (140) outer surface and the front cover bore. Put the J 41478 guide on the crankshaft front oil seal (140) then place the threaded rod (J 41478) with guide and washer and nut and the oil seal into the crankshaft end. Insert the oil seal into the cover bore using J 41478 while holding its hexagonal installer bolt with one wrench and turning the installer nut with another wrench until the seal reaches total installation depth in the bore. Check that the front cover bore displays an even installation of the oil seal before removing the J 41478 guide. Finally, reinstall the crankshaft balancer.

Q: What tools are needed to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines on GMC Sierra 1500?
A: In order to replace the Crankshaft rear oil seal on engines with displacements of 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l, the following tools will be needed: Crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J41479). Take off the engine Flywheel and then the Crankshaft rear oil seal from the rear cover. Before the oil seal can be installed, it is critical to make sure the Flywheel spacer is removed if it applies and must not lubricate the oil seal inside diameter (ID) and the Crankshaft surface and avoid the reuse of the Crankshaft rear oil seal. Lubricate the outside diameter (OD) of the new oil seal using the clean engine oil, while ensuring the oil does not come into contact with the seal surface. Additionally, lubricate the back cover oil seal bore with the clean engine oil without permitting oil to come into contact with the Crankshaft surface. Next, install the j41479 tapered cone and bolts to the rear of the Crankshaft, tighten the bolts until tight, but do not over tighten them. Mount the rear oil seal on tapered cone and compress it on the rear cover bore. Thread the j41479 threaded rod in the tapered cone till the tool touches the oil seal and then position the oil seal to the tool. Turn the handle of the tool clockwise so that the seal inserts into the rear cover, bottoming it into the cover bore. And finally, remove the j41479 and install the engine fly wheel.

Q: How to replace the front crankshaft seal on GMC Yukon?
A: A crankshaft balancer needs to be uninstalled first before replacing the front oil seal. Begin the replacement by extracting the crankshaft front oil seal (140) from the front cover. The crankshaft front oil seal sealing surface requires no lubrication and the technician should avoid installing previously used crankshaft front oil seals. Clean engine oil needs application on both the new oil seal's (140) outer surface and the front cover bore. Put the J 41478 guide on the crankshaft front oil seal (140) then place the threaded rod (J 41478) with guide and washer and nut and the oil seal into the crankshaft end. Insert the oil seal into the cover bore using J 41478 while holding its hexagonal installer bolt with one wrench and turning the installer nut with another wrench until the seal reaches total installation depth in the bore. Check that the front cover bore displays an even installation of the oil seal before removing the J 41478 guide. Finally, reinstall the crankshaft balancer.
