Lower Hinge, Front

Begin procedure to replace front side door hinge by opening and supporting the door door. You must remove intermediate bolts on the door hinge and the hinge spring before pushing the door from the front pillar until conduit restrictions allow. Use a rag to clean the mounting surfaces of the door hinges before using a grease pencil to mark the hinge placement area on the door surface. Proceed by taking off the bolts attached to the door side hinge before discarding the door side hinge itself. The body side door hinge needs four attaching bolts which are two 13 mm and one TORX(R) and one 10 mm bolt. A cone at the hinge backside might become detached but no adjustment or door hinge strap removal requires its removal. Apply a grease pencil to mark the body pillar where the hinge will be mounted after cleaning the surface. To gain access to the body side hinge bolts on the front fender one must remove the insulator yet should refrain from loosening the cone adjuster bolt as this can produce rattling noise. You have to remove both 13 mm body side hinge bolts along with the TORX(R) head body side hinge bolt before caring off the body side hinge. Property of Locktite(R) Blue GM P/N 12345382 or Canadian P/N 10953489 or equivalent must be applied to the door side hinge before installing its bolts that need to be tightened to 33 N.m (24 lb ft). Place the new body side hinge against the previous marks before fastening both 13 mm body side hinge bolts to 33 N.m (24 lb ft) torque then install the TORX(R) head body side hinge bolt reaching 10 N.m (89 lb in). Put back the intermediate door hinge bolts and torque them to 33 N.m (24 lb ft) before setting the front fender insulator. Before finish the process remove the door support then readjust the door while guiding it to its final position.

The first step to replace a Monte Carlo front door hinge starts by opening and supporting the front door. After removing the intermediate hinge bolts from the front door hinge you should push the door until it reaches the limits of the rubber conduit. Before installation you must clean the mounting locations of the hinges using a clean rag while marking the positions of the front door hinge on each surface using a grease pencil or suitable marker. You must start by taking away the bolts from the front doorside hinge which leads to the doorside hinge removal until you can remove the bolts from the bodyside hinge and the bodyside hinge itself. When installing the bodyside hinge position it at the alignment marks before attaching bolts and tightening them to 33 N.m (24 lb ft). The installation process requires placement of the doorside hinge onto the bodyside hinge before screwing in the intermediate hinge bolts to the front door hinge until they reach 33 N.m (24 lb ft). After installing the doorside hinge bolts with 33 N.m (24 lb ft torque setting apply the door support while inspecting the door for correct operation together with alignment.

Remove the two 13 mm body side hinge bolts and the body side hinge.

Remove the front fender insulator.

Remove the door side hinge bolts and the hinge itself, then clean the hinge mounting surface on the body pillar and mark its location as well.

Align the new hinge with the old alignment marks, apply Locktite(R) Blue, and install the door side hinge bolts, lightly tightening them.

Remove the door side hinge bolts and the hinge itself.

Align the new body side hinge with the old marks, install the two 13 mm body side hinge bolts and tighten to 33 Nm (24 lb ft), then install the TORX(R) head body side hinge bolt and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

A cone attached to the back side of the hinge may fall off but does not need to be removed for adjustment.

Remove the two 13 mm body side hinge bolts and the body side hinge.

Position the bodyside hinge to the alignment marks and install the bolts, tightening them to 33 Nm (24 lb ft).

Remove the intermediate hinge bolts from the front door hinge, then move the door as far as the rubber conduit allows.

Align the new body side hinge with the old marks, apply Locktite(R) again, and install the two 13 mm body side hinge bolts, tightening them to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

Position the doorside hinge to the bodyside hinge, install the intermediate hinge bolts to the front door hinge, and tighten them to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

Install the doorside hinge bolts and tighten them to 33 N.m (24 lb ft) before removing the door support.
