Start by drilling 13 mm (1/2 in) rotabroach hole saws into locations marked for each punch on the hinge before breaking it free from the pillar with a chisel if needed. Thoroughly clean the pillar surface until it achieves a flat adequate fit for the new service hinge. First repair damaged areas of the pillar before installing the service hinge within the marked area while using the punch marks to drill holes for studs. Drill a 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot hole following each center punch position before creating a 11.5 mm (29/64 in) hole to accommodate the studs.
