The caliper halves along with the external crossover tube must stay intact to stop corrosion development. Exchange all components from the repair kits and oil the rubber parts with fresh delco supreme 11® (GM P/N 12377967, Canadian P/N 992667) or equivalent dot-3 brake fluid. Bleeding of the brake system becomes necessary when any hydraulic components are disconnected. Work in an oil-free workspace to perform the operation. The disassembly requires a wooden block measuring 19 mm (3/4 inch) x 51 mm (2 inches) in each dimension or a longer block of the same size as cushion if desired. Place the brake caliper in a vise after draining its fluid and applying protective caps to prevent damage. A non-marring c-clamp should maintain an old Brake Pad or the fabricated wood block above two adjacent piston bores and keep a separate block above one opposing bore. Use clean cloths to pad the caliper housing while pressing low pressure compressed air through the bores to extract the pistons. Put the dust boot seal back into the caliper after you extract it with the piston. Following each side's procedure the technician discards every pistons and dust boot seal. Clean the caliper using denatured alcohol and dry piston openings with non-lubricated filtered air which must clear all ports before moving on. Inspect the caliper for damage; any caliper assembly requires replacement if one of its bores shows signs of scratching or corrosion. Install new piston dust boot seals to the pistons before lubricating new piston seals with delco supreme 11® from a clean container before inserting them into caliper bore grooves without twisting motion. Brake fluid coating should be applied thinly to both pistons and bores before correctly inserting the assemblies into their respective locations. Place either new brake pads or a clean fabricated block in order to push the pistons and dust boots into the correct position. Tighten the brake caliper bleeder valves to 14 nm (124 inch lbs.)after tightening the bleeder valves install the caliper back onto the vehicle and cap the valves.
