How to replace the rear door hinge on 2006 GMC Savana 3500?

The proper procedure for removing doors should be followed according to whether it is for the left or right rear side before starting to replace the rear door hinge. Start by eliminating the sealer around the hinge and draw the locations of current hinges onto the body pillar or door while indicating approximate weld positions on the hinge base center points. You should drill a 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot hole completely through the spot welds at each center punch mark then proceed to drill a 13 mm (1/2 in) hole through the hinge base and the body pillar or door using the smaller hole as a tool. A chisel should be used to divide the hinge attachment points from body pillar or door before all hinges get removed. Installation of the hinge requires you to smooth the inside holes on the hinge pillar and door before positioning the hinge and backing plate. Check that the hinge seating area is flat. Efforts should be made to paint hinge pillar and door surfaces at hinge attachment areas followed by application of a medium-bodied sealer on the hinge surface. Insert the bolt-on service replacement hinges inside the markings made while removing it then install the hinge to the body pillar or door using bolts and tapping plates that come with the kit while tightening bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in). Check that the door locking mechanism will correctly activate the striker before tightening bolts to 25 N.m and 18 lb ft. Sealer application completes the procedure before reattaching the door to its place on the vehicle while painting the assembled hinges.
