    Q:
How to replace the harmonic balancer on Buick Regal? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace the crankshaft balancer begins with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by removing the Drive Belt. Climb the vehicle before removing the right front wheel and tire and right engine splash shield keepers and the splash shield. Secondly remove the torque converter covers. You should employ the Flywheel holder (J 37096) to immobilize the Flywheel before removing the crankshaft balancer bolt and discarding it. Maintenance of the Crankshaft Pulley and balancer should happen jointly because separation between them is not recommended. Put on the crankshaft balancer remover (J 38197-A) to extract the crankshaft balancer from the system before removing the tool itself. Before installation the engine front cover seal surface on the crankshaft balancer requires engine oil treatment together with the corresponding seal area. Subsequently install the crankshaft balancer. The next step requires use of the Flywheel holder (J 37096) to cover the Flywheel. The service requires installing a new crankshaft balancer bolt which needs to be tightened to 150 nm (111 ft. Lbs.) followed by using the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to rotate the bolt another 76°. The service requires removal of the Flywheel holder (J 37096) to reinstall the torque converter covers followed by right engine splash shield and retainers before installing the right front tire and wheel and lowering the vehicle to complete the operation by installing the Drive Belt. To finish the service run the ckp system variation learn procedure.
