How to replace the lower control arm on Cadillac SRX? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the lower Control Arm, raise and support the vehicle, take off the tire and the wheel. Then, remove the air deflector and the shock module yoke from the lower Control Arm. It is of prime importance that the ball stud should not rotate when being disassembled and assembled. Apply hand tools to stop rotation because air tools can lead to damage. Take off the stabilizer shaft link lower retaining nut and remove the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm. Remove the abs wire harness and the lower Control Arm nut to steering knuckle. Use the j 43631 (Ball Joint Remover) to disconnect lower Control Arm from the steering knuckle raising the power steering gear for clearance when removing rear lower Control Arm to frame securing bolt. Loosen the retaining bolts of the power steering gear, then remove the lower contral arm to cradle nuts and bolts. Lower the Control Arm from the frame while lifting up the ball stud to have the ball stud removed. To install, align the lower Control Arm with the ball stud and raise it to the cradle then bolt the cradle. These cradle nuts, tighten them to 135 nm (96 lb ft), do the same for the power steering gear retaining bolts 180 nm (133 lb ft). Reinstall the lower Control Arm to steering knuckle nut, tightening it 40 nm (30 lb ft), and an additional 120 degrees. Reassemble the abs wire harness and the stabilizer shaft link; fasten the lower retaining nut to 115 nm (95 lb ft). Link the shock module yoke with the lower Control Arm, the air deflector, and the tire and wheel. Lastly, depress the vehicle and carry out front end alignment.
