Fuel Rail

The first step in replacement of fuel injectors and fuel rail requires relief of fuel system pressure before removing upper and lower intake manifolds. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe from the fuel injector rail after removing its fuel pipe retaining clip. Compressed air should be used to sweep away debris from the area where fuel injectors connect to the Intake Manifold. Use appropriate tools to remove fuel rail bolts after which you should extract the fuel rail with injectors but maintain precautions against damaging these components or their electrical connector terminals or spray tips. The support of the fuel rail during extraction will help protect its elements and prevent the fittings from getting contaminated. You need to start by disconnecting the electrical connector of the fuel injector then get rid of the retainer clip before pulling out the fuel injector itself while disposing of the aged fuel injector seals. Installation process begins by installing new fuel injector seals after which you should place the fuel injector and retainer clip. You should reconnect the fuel injector electrical connector then activate its lock mechanism. Fix the fuel rail with installed fuel injectors by tightening its fuel rail bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). You will finish the installation by connecting the fuel feed pipe to the fuel rail while placing the fuel pipe retaining clip in position followed by reinstallation of the upper Intake Manifold.

The first step to replace the Fuel Rail assembly requires pressure relief from the fuel system. Start by detaching the engine fuel feed pipe from the Fuel Rail and then going ahead to extract the upper Intake Manifold. The maintenance process begins by disconnecting three electrical connectors from the main Fuel Injector harness and Coolant Temperature Sensor and Camshaft Position Sensor all as prerequisites to disconnecting the Fuel Injector connections. The Fuel Rail assembly could be removed after dismounting the Fuel Rail retaining bolts. Extract the injector o-ring seal from the sprayer tip of each component. You should take out the fuel injectors from the Fuel Rail only if needed. Use gm p/n 12345616 (Canadian P/N 993182) for lubrication on Fuel Injector o-rings before installing the Fuel Injector nozzles into lower Intake Manifold injector bores. Use a hammer to press on the Fuel Rail until all fuel injectors settle into their correct positions before installing the Fuel Rail attaching bolts which must be tightened to 10 nm (89 lb in). Install the injector electrical connectors to the Fuel Rail before applying lubricating substance gm p/n 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529) to the connector points. Reconnect the electrical connectors between injector and rail. The installer should reattach the main Fuel Injector electrical harness connector after connecting the Coolant Temperature Sensor and Camshaft Position Sensor electrical connectors. The upper Intake Manifold requires installation after you connect the feed pipe to the Fuel Rail. Complete the operation by reconnecting the negative Battery Cable while inspecting for fuel leaks through three steps of turning ignition on for 2 seconds followed by 10 seconds off and then on again for leak detection.

Install the upper intake manifold and inspect for fuel leaks by turning the ignition ON for 2 seconds, OFF for 10 seconds, and then ON again, checking for any leaks.

Press the fuel rail assembly downward until fully seated.

Take off the fuel pipe retaining clip and disconnect the fuel feed pipe from the fuel injector rail.

Reconnect the fuel feed pipe to the fuel rail and secure it with the retaining clip, then reinstall the upper intake manifold.

Connect the fuel feed pipe to the fuel rail, install the fuel pipe retaining clip, and finally, reinstall the upper intake manifold.

Place the rebuilt direct fuel injectors into the cylinder heads and secure them with new hold down clamps.

Tighten the fuel rail bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

Use compressed air to clear debris from the area where the fuel injectors enter the intake manifold.

Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors (1, 4, 6, 8) from both sides of the engine.

Remove the fuel rail bolts and carefully take out the fuel rail with the fuel injectors, supporting it to prevent damage.

Clean the fuel rail assembly with a spray type engine cleaner, GM X-30A or equivalent, without soaking it in liquid cleaning solvent.

Cap the fittings and plug the holes.

Disconnect the engine fuel feed pipe, the main fuel injector harness electrical connector, and the electrical connectors from the coolant temperature sensor, camshaft position sensor, and fuel injectors.
