GMC Savana 3500 Wheel Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front wheel bearing and hub on GMC Savana 3500?
A: Start by raising the vehicle then positioning non-slip stands underneath it to ensure safe working space. When removing a brake wheel assembly unfasten the caliper from its position and secure it with wire to shield the Brake Line. The operation starts by removing the hub dust cap before taking out the cotter pin and nut while preserving the outer threads from damage. Take out the rotor from the Spindle while removing the outer bearing and pushing the dust seal into the trash. Keep the wheel bearings away from compressed air when taking out the inner bearing component. Soak all components in solvent until they become grease-free and let them air-dry before beginning work. Look for signs of wear on both the rotor and bearings before replacing any affected parts. Before assembly make sure all parts are clean and apply approved high-temperature front Wheel Bearing grease to the Spindle at its inner and outer bearing seats and shoulder as well as on the seal area. Place a small grease quantity inboard of each bearing cup in the hub/rotor before using pressure packing or hand packaging. Also make sure grease reaches every roller and part of the cone and cage. Put the internal bearing onto the rotor then add extra grease to its outside surface. Prepare the seal lip with lubricant before pushing the seal into position evenly and flat against the hub. Put the hub/rotor on the Spindle before adding the outer bearing and then the washer followed by a nut. Adjust all wheel bearings in their proper position. Place the cotter pin and add grease to the outer side of the bearing then fasten the rotor hub cap. Put back the front brake caliper before adding the wheel and tire unit. Remove safety stands then lower the car.
