    Q:
How to replace the Engine Control Module on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process to replace the powertrain control module (PCM) begins with switching ignition off because disconnecting power could do internal harm to the module. Clear all debris from the pcm connector areas before checking proper installation of the pcm module gaskets to avoid contamination. Exceptionally important to begin by using a scan tool to obtain and note down engine oil life percentage for programming the new pcm because neglecting this step will force the machine to think the oil lifetime is 100 percent thus requiring an oil change at 5,000 km (3,000 mi). Start by disconnecting the Battery Cable and then remove the pcm cover mounting tabs before taking out the pcm cover. Detach the two pcm electrical connector bolts while keeping the ignition circuit off. The installation process begins with detaching the pcm electrical connectors followed by spring latch release and finally removing the pcm unit. Installation requires proper alignment of the new pcm so mounting tabs can be engaged followed by securing the spring latch for electrical connector connection. Fasten the two pcm electrical connector bolts to 8 n.m (71 lb in) while you install the pcm cover that engages both mounting tabs before reconnecting the negative Battery Cable and programming the new pcm if needed.
