Upper Shroud

The first step in replacing the upper Fan Shroud involves loosening the clamps on the air cleaner outlet duct at the Throttle Body and maf/iat sensor of vehicles with 4.31l, 4.8l, 5.3l or 6.0l engines. Next, remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Losing the clamps on the 8.1l engine duct requires the same process as the other engines before duct removal. The procedure to replace the upper Fan Shroud starts by removing the engine harness clip on the pcm cover and tcm cover bolts followed by lifting the tcm cover to unclip it from the Fan Shroud of vehicles with 6.0l, 6.6l or 8.1l engines equipped with rpo m74 transmission. Disconnect the tcm electrical connectors and take out the tcm unit together with its cover. Before taking out the inlet hose from the Radiator the 4.81l 5.3l or 6.0l engine needs its inlet hose clamp repositioned at the Radiator and its rosebud clips at the Fan Shroud and air cleaner outlet duct removed. Before removing the upper Fan Shroud the technician must first detach the Fan Shroud retainers and bolts. Begin with inserting the upper Fan Shroud into its correct placement, then install Fan Shroud bolts and tighten them to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.) before installing the Fan Shroud retainers. Place the inlet hose on the Radiator while installing the clamp for engines using 4.81l, 5.3l or 6.0l power units. Put the inlet hose rosebud clips on both the Fan Shroud and the air cleaner outlet duct. Reinstallation of the tcm electrical connectors should occur before installing the tcm with its cover. Install the tcm electrical connector bolts to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.) while installing the tcm cover bolts to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). You should install the air cleaner outlet duct on vehicles with 8.1l engines by using clamps on the Throttle Body and maf/iat sensor to achieve 7 nm of torque (62 inch lbs.). When installing the air cleaner outlet duct on the 4.3l engine keep the hinge clip matched to the Throttle Body lip before lowering the duct until the mounting stud passes through the hole. Complete this step by installing the wingnut to a torque of 3 nm (27 inch lbs.) along with tightening the clamps at the Throttle Body and maf/iat sensor to 7 nm (62 inch lbs.).

The replacement process for the upper Fan Shroud (W/M74) starts by unsticking the air cleaner outlet duct clamps which connect to Throttle Body and mass airflow sensor before removing the air cleaner outlet duct. The a/c line retainer on the Fan Shroud requires detaching before removing the engine harness clip from the pcm cover. Start by removing the tcm cover bolts while taking off the tcm cover from around the Fan Shroud. After disconnecting the tcm electrical connectors by removing their bolts you should remove the tcm along with its cover. You can extract the upper Fan Shroud by dismounting its retainer pieces and bolts first. Install the upper Fan Shroud then fasten its bolts while tightening them to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Placing the tcm electrical connectors in position, reinstall the tcm and cover before tightening the tcm electrical connector bolts to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). Secure the tcm cover onto the Fan Shroud through bolts that need to be tightened to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Reinstall the engine harness clip to the pcm cover and then attach the a/c line retainer to the Fan Shroud followed by reinstalling the air cleaner outlet duct. Tighten both screws on the air cleaner outlet duct clamp at the Throttle Body alongside the mass airflow sensor until they reach 7 nm torque (62 inch lbs.).

The first step to replace the upper Fan Shroud (W/O M74) requires loose clamps around the air cleaner outlet duct from Throttle Body and mass airflow sensor followed by duct removal. For vehicles equipped with these components the installer must remove the Fan Shroud retainers together with bolts while simultaneously removing the Throttle Body heater hose retainer and the inlet radiator hose retainer from the Fan Shroud. The procedure begins with bolt removal from the Fan Shroud retainers after which the upper Fan Shroud gets taken out. Mount the upper Fan Shroud in its correct position before securing its mounting bolts at 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). You should reinstall the Fan Shroud retainers followed by attaching the inlet radiator hose retainer and the Throttle Body heater hose retainer to the Fan Shroud only when these elements are present. Secure the Fan Shroud outlet duct by using 7 nm (62 inch lbs.) torque on the Throttle Body clamp and the clamp at the mass airflow sensor.

Loosen the TCM electrical connector bolts and disconnect the TCM electrical connectors, then remove the TCM and cover.

Remove the radiator air baffle retainers and the radiator air baffles.

Remove the fan shroud retainers and bolts to take out the upper fan shroud.

Reinstall the cooling fan.

Place the upper fan shroud back in position and install the fan shroud bolts, tightening them to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).

Place the lower fan shroud onto the retaining clips on the radiator and push down firmly.

Reinstall the air cleaner outlet duct, tightening the clamp at the throttle body to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.) and the clamp at the mass airflow sensor to the same torque specification.

Detach the oil cooler hose clip from the lower fan shroud.

Reinstall the engine harness clip to the PCM cover, attach the A/C line retainer to the fan shroud, and then reinstall the air cleaner outlet duct. Finally, tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamp at the throttle body and mass airflow sensor to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).

First, remove the cooling fan.

Place the upper fan shroud back in position and install the fan shroud bolts, tightening them to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).

Reinstall the air cleaner outlet duct, tightening the clamp at the throttle body to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.) and the clamp at the mass airflow sensor to the same torque specification.

Position the lower fan shroud onto the retaining clips on the radiator and push down firmly.

Attach the inlet radiator hose retainer and the throttle body heater hose retainer to the fan shroud.

Take off the oil cooler hose clip from the lower fan shroud.

Reinstall the cooling fan.

Begin by placing the upper fan shroud in position and install the fan shroud bolts, tightening them to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).

First, loosen the air cleaner outlet duct clamps from the throttle body and the mass air flow (MAF) sensor, then remove the air cleaner outlet duct.

Reattach the oil cooler hose clip to the lower fan shroud.

Loosen the TCM electrical connector bolts and disconnect the TCM electrical connectors, followed by removing the TCM and cover.

Remove the fan shroud retainers and bolts, and take out the upper fan shroud.

Lift the lower fan shroud to disengage it from the retaining clips on the radiator.

First, loosen the air cleaner outlet duct clamps from the throttle body and mass airflow sensor, then remove the air cleaner outlet duct.

Reinstall the air cleaner outlet duct, tightening the clamp at the throttle body to 4 N.m (35 lb in) and the clamp at the mass airflow sensor to the same torque specification.
