Knock Sensor

Replace the Knock Sensor (KS) by taking out the Intake Manifold first. The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor wiring harness electrical connector should be disconnected from the right Knock Sensor when necessary along with removal of the connector from the left Knock Sensor. First detach the appropriate Knock Sensor for visibility purposes (chassis photo removed). The installation process requires using the new Knock Sensor while tightening it to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) torque with the fastener notice of service precautions as guidance. Following the Intake Manifold reinstall you must hook up the ckp sensor electrical connector to the left Knock Sensor and the connector to the right Knock Sensor when needed.

Start the ks replacement by extracting the Intake Manifold followed by Knock Sensor (KS) electrical connector detachment. Then extract the ks. The Knock Sensor installation requires a torque setting of 25 n.m (18 lb ft) following the information in service precautions. After connecting the Knock Sensor electrical wires you must reinstall the Intake Manifold.

First handle the supercharger assembly removal before disconnecting the knock sensor electrical connector and removing the bolt securing the KS to extract the sensor. Before installation the KS and engine block surfaces need thorough cleaning until the entire KS contact surface rests directly on the engine block. Fix the KS to its location using a bolt while making sure to eliminate the use of all washers including spring washers and toothed washers during the process and torque the bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Next install the wiring harness with care using the retaining clips before joining the KS electrical connector before putting back the supercharger assembly.

Begin replacement of the Knock Sensor (KS) 2 by removing the Intake Manifold first. Separate the electrical connector that connects to the Knock Sensor (KS) before removing the bolt located at the sensor's center. Extract the ks unit from its position inside the engine block. The ks mating surfaces require clean-up for the total surface to receive direct engine block contact. Before final installation of the ks and bolt to the engine block users must skip using any washers or spring washers or toothed washers. Fasten the bolt to a torque specification of 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Check that the wiring harness receives proper installation because there are multiple retaining clips maintaining its position. Continuation of the procedure requires connecting the electrical connector to the ks followed by Intake Manifold reinstallation.

Begin KS replacement by elevating the vehicle only enough to reach the sensor through the wheelhouse and afterward remove the left wheelhouse liner. Engine wiring harness electrical connector must be removed from the Knock Sensor before you can extract the KS from the engine block. Attach the KS to its mounting position in the engine block so the electrical terminals stay oriented toward the rear while exerting 25 N.m (18 lb ft) torque on the knock sensor (KS) bolt. Reconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the KS while also reinstalling the left wheelhouse liner and lowering the vehicle.

Primarily, to replace the Knock Sensor (KS), first, lift and support the vehicle to the height where you can access the KS through the wheelhouse, and remove the left wheelhouse liner. Pull off engine wiring harness electrical connector from KS and remove KS retaining bolt and then take out KS from engine block. For installation, make sure to install back the KS and the retaining bolt on to the engine block with the electrical terminals at the rear; tightening the knock sensor (KS) bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Next, reconnect the engine wiring harness electrical hookup to the KS and re- install the left wheelhouse liner and finally lower the vehicle.

To replace the Knock Sensor (KS) 2, first, raise and support the vehicle just enough to access the # 2 knock sensor (KS) through the wheelhouse, then remove the left wheelhouse liner. Once you disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the KS you can remove its retaining bolt so you can extract the KS from the engine block. Position the KS and retaining bolt onto the engine block with front electrical terminal facing backwards and tighten the knock sensor (KS) bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Proceed by plugging in the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the KS then install the left wheelhouse liner before lowering the vehicle.

Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector and remove the knock sensor (KS).

Connect the knock sensor electrical connector.

Remove the wiring harness heat shield from the oil level indicator tube.

Place the new KS in position and secure it with the KS bolt, tightening it to 23 N.m (17 lb ft) as per the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Place the KS in position, ensuring to adhere to the Fastener Notice.

Ensure the wiring harness is correctly installed, as it is secured with several retaining clips.

Disconnect the knock sensor (KS) electrical connector and remove the KS bolt before taking out the KS.

Position the new KS and secure it with the KS bolt, tightening it to 23 N.m (17 lb ft) as per the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the knock sensor and then remove the knock sensor.

Begin by installing the new knock sensor (1 or 2) and the bolt, tightening the sensor to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

Raise the vehicle.

Secure it with the retaining bolt, tightening it to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

Raise the vehicle.
