    Q:
How to replace the front brake calipers (J55) on Cadillac DTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace front brake caliper (J55), one must first check the level of fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir; if it is half way between the maximum-full to minimum allowable one does not need to remove any fluid, or if it is higher reduce to the half way then. Lift up and support the vehicle, make sure to mark the relationship between the wheel and the axle flange then pull off the tire and wheel assembly. Position a large c-clamp across the brake caliper body, and pull it tight enough to force the caliper pistons to slide over the brake rotor, then remove the c-clamp. Puncture the brake tube to caliper bolt and throw away the two copper brake hose gaskets while plugging the holes to avoid the fluid spurts and contamination. Take out the brake caliper pin bolts and also remove the brake caliper. To install- clean the brake caliper pin bolts & retainers w/ denatured alcohol and dry with non-lubricated filtered air. Position the brake caliper on top of the Brake Pad and into the bracket, applying a thin covering of high-temperature silicone brake lubricant to the pin bolts but not on the Brake Pad hardware. Mount the brake caliper pin bolts and tighten them to 113 nm (83 ft. Lbs.). Prepare from new copper gaskets for brake hose when fitting the brake hose bolt and fix the same to brake caliper by tightening it with 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). To bleed the brake system, bleed the brake system, with the engine off, try to apply the Brake Pedal to about 2/3 of the distance and slowly release the pedal and repeat the process until you get a firm pedal in order to seat the caliper pistons and brake pads properly. Lastly, replace the tire and wheel assembly and lower the vehicle.

    Q:
How to replace the rear brake calipers (J55) on Cadillac DeVille? Posted by Customer
    A:
After inspecting the fluid level in brake master cylinder reservoir, to replace the rear brake caliper (J55). If it is half way between the maximum-full and minimum of allowable level no need of the fluid should be taken off but if it is up let it be made to the half way position. Lift the vehicle and remove the tire and wheel assembly. Place a huge c-clamp over the top on the brake caliper housing with the back of your outboard Brake Pad to compress the Brake Caliper Piston into the bore so as to create room for the caliper to slide off the rotor. After the c-clamp is removed, then remove the brake hose to caliper bolt, plug the holes to stop fluid loss and contamination, remove the brake hose and dispose of the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. Next, remove the brake caliper pin bolts and that of brake caliper. For installation, in case of reuse of the retainers and sleeves, clean these of denatured alcohol and paint a good amount of hi temperature silicone on the retainers and sleeves. Mount the brake caliper over the brake pads with in the bracket and apply the brake caliper pin bolts, with a torque of 31 nm (23 ft. Lbs). Unscrew the plugs from the brake hose end attach new copper brake hose gaskets and assemble the brake hose bolt with gaskets on to the brake hose tighten the brake hose to caliper bolt to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Bleed the brake system by initially engaging the brake pedal to about 2/3 of its displacement distance while the engine is out, and then it should be slowly released. Wait for 15 seconds and repeat until a firm pedal is obtained, verifying correct seating of the caliper pistons and brake pads. Lastly, reinstall the tire and the wheel assembly and lower your vehicle.

    Q:
How to service and repair the front brake calipers on Chevrolet Avalanche 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and fix the front brake caliper through these steps: lift your vehicle, take off its tire and wheel next. Secure the caliper by hanging it on mechanic's wire while keeping the hydraulic brake hose connected. Look at the disc brake hardware by taking out both pads and their retainer from inside the caliper mounting bracket. You should take out the caliper pin boots from their retention spots on the disc brake caliper mounting bracket. Apply high temperature silicone brake grease to bushings and sealing points of the front brake caliper before installing the caliper pin boots onto their designated locations on the disc Brake Caliper Bracket. Place the disc brake pads and pad retainers over the caliper bracket then install the disc brake caliper itself. While the engine stays off use 2/3 of the brake pedal force before letting it go back to its initial position. Push the brake pedal slowly twice while waiting 15 seconds to find a solid pedal that helps position brake caliper pistons and pads correctly.
