Brake Switch

When replacing Brake Light Switch start by taking out the close-out panel first. Press the switch counterclockwise to unlock it before removing the electrical plugs. Employ the lower connectors when putting the lower switch inside its retainer while making sure the switch's electrical end goes to the 6 o'clock direction. Fit the lower switch into the retainer device with steady pressure. When the switch plunger enters the switch tube completely, turn the switch to the right until it stops at an 8 o'clock locked rotation. Finally, reinstall the close-out panel.

Before working on the Brake Light Switch (ABS/TCC) you must place the Brake Pedal at the top or rest position to avoid brake system harm and switch adjustment problems. Begin your work by taking out the cover part. Make sure the switch turns counter-clockwise to take it off and separate the upper switch electrical contacts. Insert the upper switch into its designated position and attach the electrical connectors but keep the switch front panel pointed toward the 6 o'clock direction. Push the lower switch into the retainer while pressed at its base and turn the switch clockwise to secure it at the 8 o'clock aligned position in its locked state. Finally, reinstall the closeout panel.

You need to position the Brake Pedal at full up rest to shield the brake system while servicing the Brake Light Switch. Eliminate first the left sound insulation piece. Every step starts with unlocking the switch by turning it in the opposite direction. Then remove the electrical connectors. Ensure the lower switch electrical connectors match before fitting the switch into the lower retainer with its 6 o'clock position at bottom. Turn the lower switch into the retainer until the switch bump locks into place. Then rotate the switch clockwise until it stops at 8 o'clock to safely secure the switch mechanism. Finally, reinstall the sound insulator.

The replacement process for brake release switch (Cruise Control) starts with insulator panel removal from the driver side along with disconnecting the upper switch electrical connector. The upper brake release switch can be extracted by turning it counterclockwise. You must keep the Brake Pedal fully up or at rest while installing brake release switch (Cruise Control) to protect the brake system from damage and avoid incorrect switch adjustment. You should attach the upper brake release switch electrical connector before installing the switch into the upper retainer where the connector faces the 6 o'clock position. The brake release switch assembly and the stoplamp switch assembly should not undergo adjustment until the brake booster pushrod connects to the Brake Pedal assembly to avoid cruise control system problems. Complete the procedure by adjusting the brake release switch followed by reinstallation of the driver side insulator panel.

The first step to adjust the torque converter clutch/cruise control release switch involves taking off the left closeout/insulator panel. The switch needs to be rotated counter-clockwise to depart from the retainer followed by insertion into this retainer until it rests firmly against the Brake Pedal arm. Rotating the switch to the right will secure the locked position. A measurement of the switch barrel end to pedal arm distance should be carried out to verify the 1.5 - 1.7 mm (1/16 inch) clearance. Once the distance measurement fails the test you must perform another switch removal and insertion sequence. When vehicle speed reaches 3.5 - 12.5 mm (1/8 - 1/2 inch) the Brake Pedal acts to close the release switch assembly at its centerline point while the nominal contact activation occurs approximately at 4.5 mm (3/16 inch). Reinstall the left closeout/insulator panel as the last step.

Before servicing the Brake Light Switch make sure you position the Brake Pedal at its full up position or at rest to protect the brake system from damage and switch adjustment issues. Begin the process by taking off the vehicle's ip sound insulators to get access. You should turn the lower switch counter-clockwise to take it out while disconnecting the lower switch electrical connectors. Installation requires users to connect lower switch electrical connectors before putting the lower switch in place within its lower retainer by positioning it towards the 6 o'clock direction. Turn the switch vendor to its stop to obtain a switch connector placement at the 8 o'clock position throughout locking. Finally, reinstall the sound insulator.

To rebuild the brake light switch (LHD), take off from left sound insulator, detach the electrical connectors connected to the switch. Then turn the brake light /ABS/shift lock switch counter-clockwise and pull to take it out. For the installation, it should be made sure that the brake light switch is self adjusting one before installation is done as the type of the switch is a twist lock that does not require any further turn of the switch. Mount the brake light switch into the retainer, pushing it in fully until the switch plunger is depressed into the switch barrel. Turn the switch clockwise until it locks fully into position and connect the electrical connectors to the brake light switch and reinstall the sound insulator.

Remove the left sound insulator.

Disconnect the upper switch electrical connector.

Connect the stop lamp/ABS/shift lock switch electrical connector to the stop lamp switch and reinstall the sound insulator.

Adjust the stop lamp switch and finally reinstall the sound insulator.

Adjust the switch as necessary and finally reinstall the left closeout/insulator panel.

Ensure the stop lamp switch is self-adjusting when properly installed in the fully locked position.

Rotate the upper switch counter-clockwise to detach it and disconnect the upper switch electrical connector.

Remove the left closeout insulator panel.

Disconnect the upper switch electrical connector.

Connect the lower switch electrical connectors.

Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch.

Remove the left closeout/insulator panel.

Rotate the switch counterclockwise and pull to remove it, then disconnect the electrical connector from the switch.

Reinstall the left insulator panel.

Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch.

Remove the left sound insulator.

Reinstall the sound insulator.

Press the switch into the retainer until the switch plunger is fully depressed into the switch barrel.

First, remove the right closeout/sound insulator.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the park brake warning lamp switch, then remove the mounting bolt and the switch itself.
