    Q:
How to replace the drive pinion bearings on an 8.6 Inch Axle on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start drive Pinion Bearing replacement on 8.6 inch axle by raising and supporting the vehicle. Divide the vehicle from the ground and then eliminate both the Differential assembly and the Differential drive pinion gear assembly. The dt 47688 (Pinion Bearing Remover) and a press should be used along with the 8.6 inch axle to extract the drive Pinion Bearing in combination with the spacer. When working on the 9.5ld inch axle you should use both the j 22912-b (Bearing Puller) and a press in order to achieve the removal task. A hammer combined with a brass drift should gently extract the outer Pinion Bearing cup from axle housing by rotating it evenly. The same procedure should be repeated for the inner Pinion Bearing cup installation. The assembly process starts with using the j 8092 and j 8611-01 tools to install first the outer then the inner Pinion Bearing cups through the application of the j 8092 (Universal Drive Handle 3/4 in-10) and j 45870 (Inner Pinion Bearing Race Installer). Establish the required thin piece of shim material for the drive pinion before placing it onto the Differential drive pinion gear. A hammer along with either the j 22828 input shaft gear installer or the j 36614 inner Pinion Bearing installer will install the inner Pinion Bearing until it sits properly on the drive pinion shim. Place a new collapsible spacer and apply axle lubricant to the pinion bearings. The Differential drive pinion gear should receive the outer Pinion Bearing before installing the drive pinion flange/yoke or oil seal. The rotating torque of the drive pinion needs to be measured for used bearings at 1.0-2.3 nm (10-20 lb in) and for new bearings at 1.7-3.4 nm (15-30 lb in). Small pinion nut tightening should be performed until the required torque measurements are met. Torque the pinion once to seat the bearings before re-examining the torque values if required. After install the Differential assembly you should fill the axle with lubricant then take off the support while lowering the vehicle.

    Q:
What tools are required to replace the drive pinion bearings on a 9.75-inch axle on Chevrolet Suburban 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The tools necessary for drive Pinion Bearing replacement on a 9.75-inch axle comprise pinion driver (J22536), split-plate bearing puller (J22912-01), universal driver handle - non-threaded (J42176), Pinion Bearing race remover - dana 248 (J45703), Pinion Bearing race installer - dana 248 (J45704), Pinion Bearing race remover - dana 248/267 (J45705) and inner bearing race installer (J7818) as well as universal drive handle - 3/4 inch - 10 (J8092). First lift the vehicle then remove the Differential assembly together with the pinion yoke and pinion oil seal before proceeding to uninstall the thrust washer. Place the pinion driver (J22536) onto the pinion until it creates a solid connection before using it together with the same tool and hammer to drive the pinion safely from the rear axle housing. The Pinion Bearing race remover - dana 248 (J45703) and universal driver handle - non-threaded (J42176) tools remove both the pinion preload shims and the inner Pinion Bearing cup and oil deflector. The outer Pinion Bearing cup then is taken out with the Pinion Bearing race remover - dana 248/267 (J45705) and universal driver handle - non-threaded (J42176). The split-plate bearing puller (J22912-01) with a hydraulic press enables removal of the inner Pinion Bearing while the pinion position shim should be extracted next. Place the oil deflector inside the inner pinion cup bore before installing its bearing cup with the Pinion Bearing race installer - dana 248 (J45704) and universal drive handle - 3/4 inch - 10 (J8092). The procees continues with the outer Pinion Bearing cup installation through the inner bearing race installer (J7818) and universal drive handle - 3/4 inch - 10 (J8092). Measure the shims for the pinion position and the drive pinion preload before reinstalling the Differential while adding proper lubricant to the axle of the vehicle.

    Q:
What tools are required to replace the drive pinion bearings on a 9.75 Inch Axle on Chevrolet Silverado 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the drive pinion bearings on a 9.75 inch axle, the following tools are required: j 22536 pinion driver (J 22536), j 22912-01 split-plate bearing puller (J 22912-01), j 42176 universal driver handle - non-threaded (J 42176), j 45703 Pinion Bearing race remover - dana 248 (J 45703), j 45704 Pinion Bearing race installer - dana 248 (J 45704), j 45705 Pinion Bearing race remover - dana 248/267 (J 45705), j 7818 inner bearing race installer (J 7818), and j 8092 universal drive handle - ¾ in - 10 (J 8092). Proceed with raising the vehicle initially then remove both the Differential assembly and the pinion yoke along with the pinion oil seal. Insert the j 22536 by seating it properly onto the pinion before proceeding. Drive out the pinion using the j 22536 tool along with a hammer without letting the pinion escape from the rear axle housing. The technicians must use j 45703 and j 42176 to remove pinion preload shims and inner Pinion Bearing cup and oil deflector. Use the j 45705 and j 42176 to remove the outer Pinion Bearing cup followed by the removal of the inner Pinion Bearing with j 22912-01 and a hydraulic press then the pinion position shim. The first step for installation involves placing the oil deflector in the inner pinion cup bore before installing the inner Pinion Bearing cup with j 45704 and j 8092 tools followed by outer Pinion Bearing cup installation with j 7818 and j 8092 tools. Determine the required thicknesses of the pinion position shim and preload shim for the drive pinion before reinstalling the Differential assembly and filling the axle with proper lubricant before lowering the vehicle.

    Q:
What tools are required to replace the drive pinion bearings on a 9.75 Inch Axle on GMC Sierra 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the drive pinion bearings on a 9.75 inch axle, the following tools are required: j 22536 pinion driver (J 22536), j 22912-01 split-plate bearing puller (J 22912-01), j 42176 universal driver handle - non-threaded (J 42176), j 45703 Pinion Bearing race remover - dana 248 (J 45703), j 45704 Pinion Bearing race installer - dana 248 (J 45704), j 45705 Pinion Bearing race remover - dana 248/267 (J 45705), j 7818 inner bearing race installer (J 7818), and j 8092 universal drive handle - ¾ in - 10 (J 8092). The repair process starts with Differential assembly elevation then Differential assembly and pinion yoke separation to extract the pinion oil seal. Insert the j 22536 on the pinion before you arrange it with complete stability. Drive the pinion out with the j 22536 tool while using a hammer so that the pinion does not drop out of the rear axle housing. First remove pinion preload shims and inner Pinion Bearing cup as well as oil deflector using j 45703 and j 42176. Then finish removing outer Pinion Bearing cup with j 45705 and j 42176. Q:
How to replace the drive pinion bearings on a 10.5 inch axle on GMC Yukon XL 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The tools required to replace drive pinion bearings on a 10.5 inch axle consist of j 22388 (Pinion Oil Seal Installer-Rear), j 22761 (Differential Side Bearing Installer), j 22912-01 (Split Plate Bearing Puller), j 24433 (Pinion Cone and Side Bearing Installer), j 37624 (Pinion Bearing Installer), j 8092 (Universal Driver Handle - 3/4 in - 10), j 8608 (Rear Pinion Bearing Installer), and j 8614-01 (Flange and Pulley Holding Tool). Workers should first elevate the vehicle before taking out the Differential unit followed by the pinion gear bearing retainer, pinion yoke, oil seal, and outer Pinion Bearing. Enso and collapsible spacer must be removed before the j 22912-01 and hydraulic press extract the inner Pinion Bearing. A hammer along with a brass drift should be used to eliminate both the outer and inner Pinion Bearing cups. The procedure for installing pinion gear pilot bearing requires the j 22761 tool followed by an installation sequence of the inner Pinion Bearing cup using j 37624 and j 8092 then the outer Pinion Bearing cup needs to be installed with j 8608 and j 8092. After installing the inner Pinion Bearing with j 24433 you should add a new collapsible spacer before lubricating the pinion bearings. Feed the outer Pinion Bearing into the retainer and mount a fresh pinion oil seal by using j 22388 before inserting the pinion into its bearing retainer. Warm the pinion yoke splines before applying sealant. Install the yoke afterward and correctly attach it to the pinion shaft by using a soft-faced hammer. Tighten the new pinion nut under j 8614-01 tool torque until the pinion end play reaches its maximum resistance. Place the original shim or a 0.41 mm (0.016 inch) alternative shim when you need to replace the missing j 8614-01. Install the pinion gear bearing retainer onto the axle housing before fastening its bolts to 88 nm (65 ft. Lbs.). The measurement of rotating torque for used pinion bearings should fall within 1.0 to 2.3 nm (10 to 20 inch lbs.) while new pinion bearings should measure between 1.7 to 3.4 nm (15 to 30 inch lbs.). You should use the j 8614-01 torque wrench to increase pinion nut tightening steps until reaching the required specification torque. Rotating the pinion several times following torque confirmation helps bear in a proper position but rechecking the torque might be necessary for adjustment. To complete the task you must restore the Differential assembly while adjusting the side bearing preload and selecting drive pinion shims and adjusting backlash before filling with lubricant and returning the vehicle to the ground.
